  • We offer two types of teeth whitening:

    In Office Teeth Whitening

The in-office whitening takes just over an hour to dramatically brighten your smile. While you sit in the dental chair listening to your choice of music, a protective gel is placed on your gums. The whitening gel is then applied to your teeth for two or three 20-minute sessions (depending on desired results).

    Take Home Teeth Whitening

Take home whitening requires two visits and at-home treatments. At your first visit, impressions of your teeth are taken to create custom-made trays for holding the whitening solution. Within a few days, you return to our office for your trays and the whitening gel with instructions for use. There are two solution strengths: With the stronger solution you wear your trays for 1-2 hours a day for 5-10 days. With the weaker solution, you wear the trays overnight. Both methods offer similar results.

  • A regular, thorough dental cleaning is a must for a healthy mouth. Most adults should be seen every six months for a cleaning, periodontal screening, dental examination, and oral cancer screening.

We’ll make sure your teeth and gums are in good health and check for gum disease, decayed or broken teeth, worn out fillings, and recommend the needed treatment.

  • If you’re missing one or multiple teeth, you have multiple options to replace them. We recommend dental implants as an effective treatment option. Surgically placed titanium cylinders can replace one—or all—of your teeth. What about the actual tooth? Is it natural-looking resin, porcelain?

Advanced Treatments

  • “Temporomandibular Joint,” more commonly referred to as the “jaw joint,” assists in the basic opening and closing movements of the jaw. Unfortunately, this joint is a common area for recurring pain. Although conventional wisdom suggests that “popping” sounds in the jaw indicates a TMJ dysfunction, this is not always true. Many times your jaw is functioning properly, even if a “popping” sound is present when chewing or talking.

We offer a TMJ exam that evaluates the joint tissue in the “hinge” of the jaw. Possible problems include swelling, deterioration of the joint tissue or damaged joint tissue (which cushions the jaw bones during the opening and closing movement of the mouth). Common pain relievers and cold compresses can provide temporary relief for most cases of TMJ.

For more serious cases of TMJ, we will recommend alternate treatments. Often, we will suggest using a mouth guard to relieve teeth grinding. In some cases, we will instruct you to use orthodontic appliances or retainers to alleviate discomfort or redirect positioning of the TMJ joint. For the most severe cases of TMJ, we may recommend certain invasive surgical? procedures.

  • Root canals no longer need to be dreaded words. The treatment can usually be done right here in our office in one appointment. You no longer have to go to a specialist or other dental office.

If you need to have a root canal treatment, it usually means the nerve of your tooth is dead or beginning to die. This usually causes pain and/or swelling. In order to treat the condition, the nerve of the tooth needs to be removed, leaving a tooth that is easily restored with a crown.

  • Some dental literature suggests that 30% of the nation’s population avoids seeing a dentist due to fear. Without routine dental exams, however, the result for many patients is often dental pain and loss of teeth. Having an unhealthy mouth often causes patients to feel even more fear and embarrassment, thus leading to increased avoidance of needed dental treatment.

This cycle of fear can now be broken with Sedation Dentistry. Dental care for the fearful or apprehensive patient can be achieved in a relaxed and comfortable environment with no pain or discomfort during or after a visit. Some patients do not even recall their visit the next day.

Sedation Dentistry is achieved through the use of the same medication that is prescribed daily by physicians across the country. Due to the extreme safety of these drugs, most people are candidates for treatment as long as they are healthy adults and have had no sensitivities to the medicine we prescribe.

The Sedation Dentistry procedure is simple.

    • Most patients will be asked to take a pill the night before their treatment.
    • We ask that patients not eat or drink anything six hours prior to the appointment. The patient then takes another pill one hour before the dental visit.
    • Laughing gas/nitrous oxide is usually used for a short time during treatment. Since the patient will feel relaxed and groggy, a companion needs to drive the patient home upon completion of the visit.
    • That evening (following treatment) we ask the patient to drink lots of fluids and rest.
    • Most people feel great the next day, with little or no memory of their treatment and no discomfort.

To determine if you or a friend/family member are a candidate for Sedation Dentistry, please call Mill City Dental at 612.377.3740. Dr. Williams will set up a friendly, pain-free appointment to discuss your needs and concerns.
